Named in honour of Sarah's daughter, who was born less than two months before the first release rosé went into bottle, Alta 'For Elsie' Rosé is a far cry from the usual sweet rosé's common in the Australian market.

In this drier style rosé, Sarah uses pinot noir grapes and allows for the natural fruit flavours in the grapes to provide sweetness. Barrel fermentation and ageing on lees gives the wine complexity and texture.

The result is a soft, savoury rosé driven by attractive red berry fruits.

Reviews

"The best wine of 2011"
"Best Rose"
"Sarah Fletcher, ex-Orlando Wyndham, is an experienced winemaker with an eye for wines of poise and elegance. It's the characteristic stamp of Alta Wines in the Adelaide Hills. Her technical precision comes to the fore in the pretty but highly satisfying Alta 2011 'For Elsie' Pinot Noir Rosé ($19.95). Dusty pale pink in the glass, gently fragrant scent of spring, strawberries and cherries leads into a light cherry dryness on the palate."
Jeni Port, The Age Epicure, 20 December 2011

"Floral raspberry and strawberry aromatics but a much drier palate with just a hint of fruit sweetness, oak spiciness and a soft creamy texture running to a finish that is nicely fresh and dry."
Sunday Tasmanian, Graeme Phillips, 18 December 2011
